Our Mission

The St. Michaels Farmers Market (SMFM) is a non-profit, producer-only farmers market in charming St. Michaels on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.

Started in 1998 as part of the renowned FreshFarm, we’ve grown to become our own independent, community-run market with 20-plus vendors, dozens of volunteers, and hundreds of visitors on Saturday mornings from spring through fall.

A leader in the local food movement, the SMFM’s core mission is to support local farmers and food producers while fostering a community-based food system in Talbot County. We promote sustainable agriculture, provide farmers with vital economic opportunities, and improve fresh food access and equity as a proud provider of nutritional benefits. We also aim to educate the public about the importance of knowing your farmer and eating #positivelylocal.

In addition to farmers and food growers, we also host live music, pop-up vendors, and educational exhibits from our local community, such as the public library, master gardeners, and more.
